☆ Will Smith surprises Coachella with ‘Men in Black’ performance

CNN —Will Smith dusted off his black suit and Ray Bans for a surprise performance at Coachella. Smith, who starred in three “Men in Black” movies, showed up toward the end of Balvin’s extraterrestrial-themed set, sporting the iconic look that became synonymous with the alien-fighting agents in the film. (Balvin’s performance and Smith’s cameo were shown on Coachella’s YouTube livestream.) In the “Men in Black” franchise, Smith starred as Agent J, a former NYPD detective who is recruited to serve in a secret organization that deals with all extraterrestrial matters. Smith starred alongside Tommy Lee Jones.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Thursday that Meta plans to build its own artificial general intelligence, known as AGI, which is artificial intelligence that meets or surpasses human intelligence in almost all areas. Zuckerberg’s latest announcement is one of its biggest pledges to double down on artificial intelligence. Big Tech companies including Microsoft, Google and Amazon continue to share new AI tools and visions amid a heightened and renewed AI arms race. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg said Meta is creating a new “top-level product group” to “turbocharge” the company’s work on AI tools. “That trope around ‘every company is now a technology company’ has evolved to be every company is now an AI company,” he said.

Meta's AI initiatives are likely to be a key aspect of how it monetizes products and services going forward, while bringing more users and customers into the AI fold. Whereas Meta's headset is priced for mass-market adoption, Apple's headset is clearly a premium device targeted to those who demand the most cutting-edge technology — such as micro-OLED lenses with eye-tracking capabilities . Similarly, JMP Securities argued that the event "highlights Meta's AI tailwinds," which could "unlock additional advertising budgets with new chat-based customer service." Meanwhile, we expect adoption of Meta's Quest 3 hardware to grow. But the integration of the Meta AI assistant into that platform should ultimately make the glasses a more valuable product over time.

But TikTok is still their priority for making short-form video content, said Kolin Kleveno, SVP of addressable media for Tinuiti. And advertisers predicted that even more creators will jump ship to YouTube Shorts thanks to its revenue-sharing program. Tinuiti's Kleveno said YouTube Shorts' revenue-sharing plan will put a ding in Reels' efforts to attract creators.
